Curiosidade: os judeus e as músicas de Natal.
Judeus que escreveram canções de NatalOs judeus não celebram o Natal nem acreditam na divindade de Jesus Cristo, cujo nascimento é celebrado pelos cristãos a 25 de Dezembro. Mas, paradoxalmente, não deixa de ser irónico que as mais populares canções de Natal tenham sido escritas e compostas por judeus.
A maior parte delas vêm dos Estados Unidos, o país onde, tal como hoje o conhecemos, o Natal foi inventado, na cidade de Nova Iorque ao virar de 1900.Mas tudo começara do outro lado do Atlântico, em meados do século XIX, quando um judeu francês, Adolphe Adam, o compositor do ballet Giselle, escreve Cantique De Noël, também conhecida em inglês como O Holy Night, ainda hoje considerado o hino por excelência do Natal.Em 1940, Irving Berlin (cujo nome verdadeiro era Israel Isidore Baline), um talentoso judeu russo nascido na Sibéria e emigrado em Nova Iorque, compôs aquela que seria a canção de Natal responsável por moldar o imaginário natalício da América – White Christmas, cantada 14 anos mais tarde no musical homónimo pela voz de Bing Crosby.
Musicais da Broadway e o cinema vieram popularizar inúmeras canções de Natal escritas por músicos judeus, entre elas Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Holly Jolly Christmas e Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree de Johnny Marks; Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow, de Sammy Cahn e Jule Styne; Silver Bells de Jay Livingston e Ray Evans; The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire), de Mel Tormé.
Apesar de serem das mais conhecidas canções de Natal, as composições natalícias escritas por judeus tendem a ser “laicas” e “seculares”, preferindo celebrar aspectos desta tradição cristã que nada têm a ver com religião propriamente dita, como a reunião das famílias, os presentes e o aconchego a que convida uma manhã nevada de Inverno.
